The Yankees are unlikely to acquire Paul Byrd from the Indians, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. The Bronx Bombers have been frustrated with their pursuit of the Mariners' Jarrod Washburn and were "kicking around" the idea of trading for Byrd, but it appears that their interest is only mild.The Rockies are also rumored to be interested in Byrd, but they also don't appear to be aggressively pursuing the veteran.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports the New York Yankees are entertaining the idea of acquiring Cleveland Indians SP Paul Byrd due to frustration by their attempts at landing Seattle Mariners SP Jarrod Washburn. The Yankees and Indians had not yet exchanged names, but a deal could come together quickly if the Yankees decided to pursue it.

The Mariners apparently don't realize that Jarrod Washburn isn't that good. After a deal that would send the lefty to the Yankees died down, the M's asked the Rockies for outfielder Dexter Fowler and reliever Casey Weathers in exchange for Washburn, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Seattle also wanted starter Jon Niese and/or outfielder Fernando Martinez from the Mets.The Mariners aren't going to get anywhere with those kinds of demands.

According to FOXSports.com, Jarrod Washburn senses "mutual interest" in a possible return to the Mariners. "Not saying it will happen, but I know I enjoyed my time there, my wife and kids loved it there, and I think they have some interest," said Washburn. "So, I see that as a possibility." The 35-year-old southpaw was 31-49 with a 4.17 ERA in parts of four seasons in Seattle, but was 8-6 with a 2.64 ERA in 2009 before getting dealt to the Tigers at the trade deadline. Washburn could also see the Twins and Brewers as a potential fit since they are close to his offseason home in Wisconsin.
