Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer will have season-ending surgery after tearing muscles in his groin and lower abdomen.The 46-year-old left-hander was 12-10 with a 4.94 ERA in 30 games, including 25 starts. He lost his spot in the starting rotation to Pedro Martinez in August and probably wasn't going to be on the team's postseason roster.Moyer was injured on his final pitch in the seventh inning of the Phillies' 7-4 win over Houston on Tuesday night.

Making his first start since injuring his neck on September 19, Pedro Martinez allowed three runs in four innings on Wednesday, but the Phillies still managed to beat the Astros 10-3 at home, as well as clinch their third straight National League East title.
Our View: Pedro's start likely has the Phils wondering what to do with him in the playoffs. As a right-hander in a rotation full of lefties, he could be given a start, but it seems more probable at this point that he will pitch out of the bullpen, particularly after long-reliever Jamie Moyer was lost for the season on Wednesday. Stay tuned.

Jayson Stark, of ESPN.com, reports Philadelphia Phillies SP Jamie Moyer (groin) will need surgery to fix three torn muscles in his groin and lower abdomen. He will miss the rest of the season and postseason. Team doctor Michael Ciccotti said Moyer will have the surgery in the next seven to 10 days. He is expected to be ready in time for Spring Training.

He'll be ready to go by Spring Training, but these three torn muscles close the book on what was a disappointing season for Moyer. Moyer's 16-9 record and 3.71 ERA in 2008 were good enough to earn baseball's oldest player a two-year, $13 million extension. Yet he struggled in '09 and lost his rotation spot once the Phillies signed and activated Pedro Martinez. Pitching out of the bullpen, Moyer shaved half a run off his ERA, but he still finished 12-10 with a 4.94 ERA and a .279 opponents' average in 30 games. It's tough to know what, if anything, he'll offer fantasy owners next year.

Jamie Moyer is done for the season after tearing two tendons in his groin and one in his lower abdominal area, according to the New York Times.
Our View: There goes the Phillies' long-man for the postseason. And obviously, at age 46, this could sadly be the last we ever see of Moyer. In over 3,900 career innings, he owns a 258-195 record.

Phillies' reliever Jamie Moyer left Tuesday's game with a left groin strain, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. No word yet on the severity of the injury.
Our View: Moyer will be the long man in the Phils bullpen for the postseason if he is healthy enough to do so, but we don't know how bad the injury is as of yet. We will keep you updated on his condition, so stay tuned.

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that Jamie Moyer has been in the hospital since Wednesday due to a blood infection. General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Moyer is OK. The 46-year-old left-hander underwent surgery to repair three torn tendons in his groin and lower abdomen last week. He is on tap to make $8 million in 2010.
