News: From The Sports Xchange: There were a couple of surprises for the Mariners as they adjusted their catching situation. The first was Kenji Johjima actually has three broken bones in the toe and will be out at least six weeks, with eight weeks more likely. And they didn't go to veteran Jamie Burke at Triple-A Tacoma as most suspected. When Johjima was on the DL earlier in the year with leg problems, Burke was the one who got the call. This time, however, the Mariners promoted Guillermo Quiroz, signed toward the end of spring training when he became a free agent with Baltimore. Manager Don Wakamatsu called Burke, 37, to tell him that he wasn't being promoted, saying the club was going younger. Quiroz is 27. Catcher Jeff Clement, the top pick for Seattle in the 2005 draft, was hitting .448 in his previous 13 games with Tacoma but wasn't considered for the promotion because knee injury problems won't let him play behind the plate yet.
