Peavy had a season-high 13 strikeouts over eight shutout innings but Hoffman (3-6) surrendered a pinch-hit RBI single to Chris Iannetta that tied it at 1. The Associated Press reports San Diego Padres SP Jake Peavy gave up a season-high six runs (five earned) and five hits while walking four and striking out two in five innings Wednesday, Aug. 20. It was his third loss in his last four starts. It was Peavy's shortest outing since May 14. He is now 11-11 with a 4.88 ERA against the Arizona Diamondbacks and has pitched five or fewer innings in nine of 25 career starts against them.

Peavy's record sits at a mediocre 9-8, but it's tough to find fault with his performance this year. After all, when a guy owns a 2.61 ERA and a 133/41 K/BB ratio in 134 2/3 innings, you'd think he'd be knocking on the door of 20 wins. Look for him to deliver a typical strong effort and hope that he receives enough run support when he next faces the D-backs on the road on Aug. 19 or 20.

Jake Peavy did not pitch poorly over his last two starts, but with the San Diego offense as porous as it is, he wound up taking a loss each time. He reversed that trend today, throwing seven innings of one run ball while striking out eight in the Padres 3-2 win over Milwaukee.Peavy has had just one poor month back in May, but has been very good otherwise. With the offensively-challenged Padres backing him, wins will be tough to come by. Still, he does so much else for fantasy owners, that he can certainly be a valuable asset.
