News: Jake Peavy's injured right ankle was re-examined Tuesday, and the San Diego Padres ace could get his protective boot off in about two weeks. Peavy, the 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner, has been on the disabled list since June 13 with a strained tendon. He was injured running the bases against the Chicago Cubs in late May. Manager Bud Black said if Peavy continues to heal at the same rate he should get the boot off in about two weeks and began a rehabilitation program. [...]

Padres ace pitcher Jake Peavy underwent an MRI and strength
Padres ace pitcher Jake Peavy underwent an MRI and strength tests Tuesday to gauge how well his right ankle is progressing after more than two weeks in a walking boot. Orthopedic specialist Steven Copp determined that Peavy, who was diagnosed June 12 with a tibialis posterior tendon strain, needs 10 to 14 more days in his cast. The verdict is in line with original projections that Peavy would require about a month in the boot. Peavy did not rule out the possibility of surgery, instead saying he hopes "it's not even an option" once the boot is removed for another evaluation. Peavy originally injured his ankle while running the bases May 22 against the Cubs. Doctors treated him for tendinitis, and he took to the mound with a heavily taped ankle for three starts after he sustained the injury. But when an MRI on June 12 revealed deeper damage, the Padres placed Peavy on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 9. Owners can only hope that all goes well and Peavy is able to return healthy and productive.

Padres | More on Peavy
Updating a previous report, Amy Brittain, of MLB.com, reports San Diego Padres SP Jake Peavy (ankle) will be examined by orthopedic specialist Steven Copp Tuesday, June 30, to determine the proper course of treatment. It is expected that he will need at least two more weeks in his walking cast. Peavy said he does not experience any pain while walking in his cast and only removes the boot for daily ultrasound treatments.

Analysis: Peavy strained his ankle May 22 and hasn’t pitched since June 8. He said he has no pain in the joint, but it’s reasonable to expect he will remain in a walking cast for at least two more weeks. The 2007 National League Cy Young Award winner is 6-6 with a 3.97 ERA in 13 starts this season.
