News: Starved for run support much of the season, Braves SP Jair Jurrjens almost didn't know what to do when Yunel Escobar's three-run homer gave him a nine-run lead Friday at Arizona. Jurrjens struggled through five innings but held on for the win, allowing five runs on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts. "I was so close to blowing up," said Jurrjens, who helped his cause with a two-run double. "Baseball is so funny. You ask for runs, they give you a lot of runs, then you give back a lot of runs." That was the first time in 11 starts that Jurrjens had surrendered more than three earned runs, and his ERA took a sharp jolt upward as a result. Sitting at 2.07 entering Friday, the righty's mark rose to 2.59. That's still a very respectable figure, and it pairs nicely with a solid 1.23 WHIP. Jurrjens is a promising start on June 4 at home against a battered Cubs lineup.
