Ichiro to return to action April 15
Ichiro Suzuki is apparently recovering very well from the severe fatigue he had been suffering due to a bleeding ulcer and is expected to return to Seattle's lineup once he's eligible to come off the DL on April 15, according to MLB.com.
Our View: "He's increasing his workload down there [in Arizona]," manager Don Wakamatsu said of Ichiro, "and if everything goes as planned and he keeps progressing, he'll probably meet us in Oakland." Apparently, the plan is to have Ichiro meet up with the Mariners during their series in Oakland from April 10-12, and while he won't be eligible to play until April 15, that's still a very good sign. It looks like Ichiro owners shouldn't be too frustrated about his placement on the DL, as they will only need to find a replacement for his first eight games, with no lingering effects expected to be suffered by the veteran outfielder.
Griffey to start in right on opening day
The Seattle Times reports that Ken Griffey Jr. will start in right field on opening day, but that will not necessarily be a staple of Ichiro Suzuki's stint on the DL. He will likely DH the next two games and sit out a fourth as the team does not want to push him on Minnesota's Astroturf.
Our View: There are some expectations forming around Griffey that may not be entirely fair. Another 490 at-bats, which is what he managed last season, should be viewed as a good season. There's still some power there, and there's a chance he really takes to the DH role. Regardless, if you're expecting 30 home runs and 100 RBI, you're in for a rude awakening.

Griffey may replace Ichiro
MLB.com reports that Ken Griffey Jr. may replace Ichiro Suzuki in right field until Ichiro returns from his bleeding ulcer. He will miss the first eight games. Wladimir Balentin is the other option.
Our View: Griifey has played left field and DH this spring, but the move won't be a difficult one for the veteran. He played mostly in right with the Reds for the last two seasons. Regardless of if he's in the field or at DH, Griffey figures to be in the Mariners lineup more often than not this season.
