The decision came because new addition Huston Street has struggled so far this season, posting a 13.50 ERA in four appearances. Hurdle made the decision to name Corpas the closer even though the right-hander has also has suffered from some inconsistency. Corpas allowed a two-run home run to the Phillies' Chase Utley in the eighth inning of an April 12 loss, but Hurdle said it was just one bad pitch. It's clear that the Rockies closer situation will be an ongoing story, so be sure to pay close attention.

Our View: If there's any good news to come from this it's that Manny Corpas blew the game in the first place as he allowed the Phillies two runs in the eighth inning. Both pitchers got some work in on Saturday when the Rockies lost, and perhaps the manager will learn his lesson. His two best relievers should be reserved for games in which they are winning.

News: Huston Street is taking over the closer role for the Colorado Rockies. Street, a right-hander acquired as part of a November trade with the Athletics involving Matt Holliday, was named Colorado's closer before the Rockies' 7-4 victory over the Diamondbacks on Thursday. "This is what I came to camp to accomplish and it's a role I feel comfortable with. There is a lot of responsibility that goes along with it," Street said. "My teammates should expect me to not only get the job done but be prepared to get the job done. That's what I spent the whole offseason doing. I feel like this is just the beginning." After allowing only five hits and one run in his last eight appearances, Street is using his lack of success a year ago as motivation. Our View: Street has allowed just one run over his last nine spring appearances. His velocity has been down in recent years, he's now pitching in Colorado and will have Corpas breathing down his neck, so obviously there are safer closer options out there.
