Patrick Saunders, of The Denver Post, reports Colorado Rockies RP Huston Street is making a late push to win the title of closer for the team this season. He gave up just a bunt single in the ninth inning Thursday, March 26, and has lowered his spring ERA down to 6.48, giving up just one run in his last six innings pitched. Manager Clint Hurdle said he will decide between Street and RP Manny Corpas with about a week left in Spring Training.

The bounceback effort gives Street a legitimate shot at overtaking Manny Corpas for the Rockies closer job. Manager Clint Hurdle said earlier in camp that he would make a decision with about a week to go, so an announcement could be imminent.

Huston Street has been making a late push for the closer's role to enter the season in Colorado, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: "We are going to give it as long a look as we need to, and see what we need to see in order to make the best decision," manager Clint Hurdle said. Hurdle also stated that the decision regarding who he'll choose to close should be made within the next couple days and that he intends to stick with just one closer once the decision is made. Manny Corpas has been solid with a 1.29 ERA this spring and probably remains a bit ahead of Street. Still, Street, who struggled initially in spring, has allowed just one run in his past six innings, so he still has a shot at the job. Stay tuned.
