The Oakland Tribune reports Oakland Athletics SP Gio Gonzalez lost his third straight decision, going five innings and giving up four runs and seven hits Wednesday, Aug. 26, against the Seattle Mariners. He was touched for a two-run homer in the first by Mariners 2B Jose Lopez.

He has 16 punchouts in 10 2/3 innings over his last two appearances. That's a gaudy number that he can maintain when he goes against the Royals at McAfee Coliseum on Aug. 31.

Our View: Gonzalez struggled tonight, and now has a losing record at 4-5. On the positive side, he reached at least seven strikeouts in three of five starts this month.

Our View: Lopez continues his power surge, as he hit a homer in four of his last seven games. He has 19 homers for the season, and leads the Mariners with 78 RBI.
