Outfielder Magglio Ordonez spoke more about the injury to his right oblique muscle. He went on the DL on Sunday. "It will just take treatment and rest," Ordonez informs the MLive.com. "It will be maybe two weeks. I'll be back when I am ready." He suffered the injury when chasing a foul ball on Saturday, and he left the game two innings later. Ordonez explains the similar injuries to teammates Gary Sheffield and Brandon Inge helped him to realize that he needed to be smart about the ailment. Clete Thomas is expected to see a lot of time while Ordonez is out.Like the Tigers, fantasy owners can't replace Magglio. However, it's interesting to know that Thomas, not Matt Joyce, is expected to get most of the action.

The Tigers found failure at the ballpark tonight, falling 8-4 to the Cardinals, though designated hitter and recently-returned-from-injury slugger Gary Sheffield did what he could to boost his mates. Sheffield went 1-for-4, hitting his fourth homer of the season to total two RBIs and one runs scored on the night.This was Sheff's first game since May 26th, hitting his first homer since May 23rd. Now that he's back he's already making noise and hopes to get the Tigers back in the fray for the AL Central.

Jeff Larish has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo, according to the AP. The team activated Gary Sheffield from the DL as a corresponding move.Larish hit .200 over 40 at-bats with one homer and seven RBI while chipping in while Sheffield was out. He will now have to wait for another chance to play with the big league club.

Gary Sheffield could be activated from the DL as early as Tuesday, according to the Detroit Free Press. GM Dave Dombrowski noted that Sheffield was scheduled to fly to Detroit for a meeting with team officials today. Sheffield has been on a minor league rehab assignment with Class-A Lakeland since the start of last week as he recovered from a strained left oblique.As long as Sheffield does not suffer any more setbacks with the injury, it is likely he will rejoin the active roster soon. He has been serving as the primary DH most of the time this season, and his return could impact the playing time of rookie Jeff Larish, who is currently working as the DH against righties.
