News: Rangers RP Frank Francisco, who worked the eighth inning Wednesday while C.J. Wilson worked the ninth for the save, again pitched earlier than the ninth inning Thursday at Arizona. He pitched the first third of the eighth inning, allowing two runs on two hits. According to the Dallas Morning News, Rangers manager Ron Washington wants to ease Francisco, who spent time on the DL with a strained right shoulder, back into the closer role. Wilson will continue to serve as closer for now. [...]

Manager Ron Washington indicated that C.J. Wilson and Frank Francisco will share the closer role.
Analysis: Washington expressed that he wants to see Francisco to pitch back-to-back games before making him the full-time closer again. He lost the role to Wilson after going on the 15-day disabled list June 14 with a strained right shoulder and Wilson has impressed enough to give Washington the confidence to use either reliever in a save situation. This means Wilson should still be regarded as a handy reliever to own until Francisco is deemed fully healthy.
Rangers | Francisco ready to assume closing duties again
T.R. Sullivan, of MLB.com, reports Texas Rangers RP Frank Francisco said he is ready to resume his duties as the closer after recently coming off the disabled list. Manager Ron Washington said he wants to make sure Francisco can pitch in back-to-back games before using him as the closer again. "Obviously, his stuff is back," Washington said. "We just want to make sure we can use him consistently on consecutive days. But when Frankie is back healthy, he's our closer."

Francisco had been out since June 4 with a strained right shoulder. "He'll give us a huge boost," manager Ron Washington said. "Like I said, I'm not going to use him right away in the closer's spot but as long as he can come in and get hitters out. he'll be a huge boost for us. Washington added that he won't use Francisco in a save situation right away, getting him work in the seventh or eighth inning in his first outing back. "I don't want him to have that stress right out of the chute," Washington said. On Saturday against the Giants, he worked a scoreless eighth inning, striking out two. [...]

Moscoso optioned by Rangers
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting that the Rangers have optioned pitcher Guillermo Moscoso to Triple-A Oklahoma City. This move was made to make room for the activation of closer Frank Francisco.
Our View: Moscoso has been back and forth between the majors and minors several times this season, so no big shocker here. He will have no fantasy value until he can stay on the ML roster, and even then his value will be limited.
Francisco activated by Rangers
The Texas Rangers have activated closer Frank Francisco from the 15-day DL, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In a corresponding move, the team optioned pitcher Guillermo Moscoso to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Our View: Manager Ron Washington told the media that Fancisco will not serve as the closer for Saturday's game, and the Rangers are expected to ease him back into the role. Francisco owners should get him activated in the next few days, but it wouldn't be a terrible idea to give him a few more days.

C.J. Wilson has been the Rangers' interim closer during Francisco's
C.J. Wilson has been the Rangers' interim closer during Francisco's absence and is 4-3 with a 2.89 ERA and six saves in 29 appearances. "I don't want him to have that stress right out of the chute," Washington said. The other question is when Francisco will be ready to pitch on back-to-back days. He pitched three straight days on May 4-6, his last three outings before landing on the disabled list the first time because of tendinitis in his right shoulder. The Rangers activated him on May 21 and Washington refrained from using him in back-to-back games. But he still ended up having to go back on the disabled list on June 3 with more shoulder problems after making five appearances.

Francisco, on the disabled list with a strained right shoulder, is scheduled to pitch one inning on a medical rehabilitation assignment for Double-A Frisco on Thursday night. If that goes well, he could join the Rangers this weekend in San Francisco. "We're going to ease him back in," Rangers manager Ron Washington said before Wednesday's game with the Houston Astros. "We're not going to just drop him back in there. But if he's healthy, he'll eventually get back in there."
Francisco will not close immediately
MLB.com reports that Rangers manager Ron Washington will ease Frank Francisco back into the closer's job once he returns. He hopes to be back for this weekend's series, but will make a rehab appearance at Double-A first.
Our View: After starting off the season in a dominant fashion, he has made just five appearances since May 6. We don't expect him to make very many appearances in non-save situations before regaining the closer's job.

Francisco was on the disabled list from May 7-21 with the same
Francisco was on the disabled list from May 7-21 with the same injury and hadn’t pitched since June 3 after reaggravating it. The move is retroactive to June 4, so Francisco would be eligible to return June 19, but it's unlikely that he will be ready by then. After rushing his return last time, the Rangers want him to make at least one or two appearances on a medical rehabilitation assignment at Double-A Frisco before they activate him again. Francisco has 12 saves in as many chances this season and a 0.46 ERA over 19 2/3 innings, so owners should stash him on a bench or DL slot for now. In the meantime, C.J. Wilson will likely get the bulk of Texas’ save opportunities. He’s converted six of seven chances this season and should be useful to owners in need of saves despite his shaky peripherals (17 K, 12 BB in 25 innings).

Texas closer Frank Francisco hasn't pitched in 10 days, yet
News: Texas closer Frank Francisco hasn't pitched in 10 days, yet the Rangers still have no plans to put him on the disabled list for the second time this season. Manager Ron Washington said Saturday that Francisco, who has been sidelined by shoulder stiffness, is on a throwing program. The next step is to "amp him up" during a bullpen session Sunday and see how he responds. Francisco hasn't pitched since June 3 against the Yankees, when he earned his 12th save in as many chances this season. The right-hander was on the 15-day disabled list last month because of right biceps tendinitis. Francisco didn't do any throwing Saturday, a day after doing long toss. The Rangers have a day off Monday before opening a three-game interleague series at home against Houston. "Of course we miss Frankie, but we're a team and other people have to step up. And they've stepped up their game," Washington said. "If we had a healthy Frankie Francisco, it makes our bullpen great. Now we're good." [...]

"Every time I throw it gets better and better," Francisco said. "I don't know when I'll be ready. It could be two days, three days or two weeks. Who knows?"
Our View: When Francisco is healthy, he has proven to be one of top options at closer. However, he has been sidelined more often than not over the past month. It sounds as if he will avoid the DL, and it's possible he could be ready to go for this weekend's games.

Francisco owners have to be frustrated by his constant nicks and bruises, considering he’s pitched like a top-tier closer when healthy. He’s notched 12 saves and given up just one earned run in 20 innings, good for an 0.46 ERA. The Rangers don’t think he’ll require a DL stint, but bench him for the time being and look for C.J. Wilson to get save opportunities in his absence.

Francisco not heading to DL yet
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting that Rangers' closer Frank Francisco is not expected to need a trip to the DL after being unavailable for the third consecutive game Sunday with tightness in his shoulder.
Our View: Shoulder tightness in pitchers is usually a bad sign, but the Rangers aren't showing much concern. Earlier in the season, the team waited over a week before placing Francisco on the DL, but this looks like a different situation. Expect him to be back sometime this week barring some new injury news out of Texas.
