Reyes suffers new tear of hamstring

Source (fanball.com) (RP - nyn) | 0 comments.

After missing nearly all of 2009 with a number of leg injuries, Jose Reyes suffered a new tear of his hamstring on Wednesday, according to Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post.

Our View: Simply stunning. The Mets are now so snake-bitten they are even getting hurt while they are running off the field recovering from previous injuries. Coupled with the walk-off grand slam allowed by Francisco Rodriguez, Wednesday might have been the worst day in a season full of awful ones for the Mets in 2009.

Redding's quality night wasted by K-Rod

Source (fanball.com) (RP - nyn) | 0 comments.

The Mets got something on Wednesday night that they rarely saw all season - a quality start from Tim Redding, who allowed just one run in six innings. However, then they got something they had seen six times before - a blown save from Francisco Rodriguez, who allowed a walk-off grand slam, as the Mets lost 7-4 in Washington.

Our View: Redding has actually had quite an impressive September, going 1-2 with a 3.19 ERA in six starts. He still likely won't be back with the Amazins in 2010, however.

Quote: K-Rod says he Sucks, and he is Sorry

Source (Mets Blog) (RP - nyn) | 0 comments.

Following today’s loss, Francisco Rodriguez addressed Mets fans, saying:“To all those fans out there watching that poor effort today, I apologize. I’m really embarrassed. I just have to suck it up and keep working hard and make sure that doesn’t happen again.”Rodriguez was asked if the lack of work this season has led to his recent struggles, [...]

K-Rod allows second walk-off slam of '09

Source (fanball.com) (RP - nyn) | 0 comments.

Francisco Rodriguez blew his seventh save of the season in stunning fashion on Wednesday, allowing a walk-off grand slam to journeyman outfielder Justin Maxwell, as the Mets lost 7-3 in Washington D.C.

Our View: K-Rod's seventh blown save happens to be the second he's accrued via a walk-off grand slam in 2009. Since appearing in the All-Star game in early July, he has been a monstrosity, posting a 6.84 ERA in just 25 innings. After looking like such a good investment for the first half of 2009, he could end up being the next disastrous big contract handed out by the truly inept Mets.

Maxwell stuns K-Rod, Mets

Source (fanball.com) (RP - nyn) | 0 comments.

Justin Maxwell's fifth career home run was a big one on Wednesday. The 25-year-old outfielder punished Francisco Rodriguez's 37th pitch of the ninth inning, rocketing a game-winning grand slam off the All-Star. The homer enabled the Nationals to beat the Mets 7-3, and to improve to 1-87 when trailing after eight inning in 2009.

Our View: Truly stunning. Despite his Wednesday heroics, Maxwell doesn't figure to more than a fifth outfielder should he make the Nats next season.
