Francisco Liriano will open the year at Single-A Fort Myers and pitch their season opener, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He'll then join Triple-A Rochester five days later and make a start for them before joining the Twins rotation. "By then, he should be stretched out to 100 pitches," manager Ron Gardenhire said, "and we'll bring him up with us."Coming back from Tommy John surgery, Liriano looked good in his final spring start Friday, but he's struggled overall. Barring a setback, it sounds like he'll be with the big club in mid-April.

Francisco Liriano did just about everything possible Friday to make a case for starting the season with the Twins. He allowed a lone run on three hits and two walks over five innings, while striking out seven, in his final spring performance.Whether he breaks camp with the Twins or heads to the minors to keep working his way back from Tommy John surgery is now out of his hands, but this was a great way to state his case for pitching in the bigs.
