Nieve was an effective starter for about a month and a half before a right quadriceps tear ended his season in mid-July. He'll be given a chance to win a rotation spot if healthy in Spring Training next season, though owners will want to pay more attention to his spotty K/BB mark than his ERA when gauging his ability.

According to Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post, Fernando Nieve has a torn muscle in his right thigh and will miss at least six weeks. At some point you have to start feeling sorry for the Metropolitans. They're dealing with all sorts of question marks on the injury front. Nieve was 3-3 with a 2.95 ERA in 36 2/3 innings over seven starts and one relief appearance, but now can't be counted on until September, at the earliest.
