Fernando Martinez had right knee surgery on Tuesday, and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, according to Newsday.

Our View: F-Mart will be out until at least mid-August. Since he was hitting just .188 at the time of the injury, he probably won't be worth an add for the stretch run in non-keeper leagues.

The team recalled infielder Argenis Reyes from Triple-A Buffalo to take Martinez's spot on the roster. Reyes had been optioned to Buffalo just one day earlier to clear a spot for Oliver Perez. The 20-year-old Martinez is one of the Mets' top prospects, but he has struggled during his first two stints in the big leagues this season, hitting .176 with one home run and eight RBIs in 29 games. Without Martinez, the Mets are down to one regular center fielder in Jeremy Reed. With a left-hander on the mound Thursday, Ryan Church got the start in center, flanked by Nick Evans and Gary Sheffield.

Argenis Reyes has been recalled from Triple-A to replace the injured Fernando Martinez, according to MetsBlog.com. He was optioned yesterday to make room for Oliver Perez, but he is back due to the injury.

Our View: Reyes will just be bench depth for the Mets for now, but at the rate they get injured he could find himself being an everyday play by the All-Star break. He has no fantasy value, as he will have a very limited number of at-bats.

Our View: Martinez has been struggling with his knee for a few days, and the team finally decided it was time to put him on the DL. His fantasy value is low right now, but he figures to be a solid fantasy contributor down the road.

Fernando Martinez (knee) is playing with Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Winter League. Martinez, 21, is currently working his way back from season-ending surgery on his right knee. He was 1-for-8 with a strikeout in his first weekend of action. Martinez was badly over-matched upon his promotion last season, so if healthy, he should find himself back at Triple-A in 2010.
