Susan Slusser, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports Oakland Athletics DH Jack Cust said he would like to return to the team next season. "Maybe, I don't know," Cust said. "It's looking more like it. I hope I'm back, but it's not my decision and I know they have some things to think about, if they want to spend that money on me or someone else. There are a lot of guys I'm sure they want to look at. They've showed they want to go young." C Landon Powell and 3B Eric Chavez could also be designated-hitter candidates next year.

Status: D.L.. Out for the season
Eric Chavez will attempt to return to play third base for the A's next spring training. "I'll try to get in great shape, roll the dice and see what happens," Chavez said. He underwent a second microdiscectomy on his back in June. There's no guarantee that he'll ever be a major contributor again.
