The third baseman hit soft toss pitches in an indoor batting cage on Sunday. He'll begin taking regular batting practice at some point in this week. Encarnacion has also been taking ground balls, another exercise in which he has excelled without any apparent setback. Still, not even a Minor League rehab assignment is scheduled as of Sunday. He should have a clearer timetable once he goes through a regular BP session this week.

News: The Reds could use another hitter with Joey Votto on the DL but that hitter won't be Edwin Encarnacion anytime soon, reports MLB.com. Encarnacion, who has been on the 15-day DL with a chip fracture in his left wrist, hit soft tosses Sunday and will begin regular batting practice next week. "Edwin is going to at least be a couple of more weeks," Reds manager Dusty Baker said Sunday. "He was hitting .127 when he left, so he has to go get some at-bats. I already talked to him about it. I said I'd rather you [be] over-ready when you come back than under-ready. We can't, and he can't, afford to struggle when you get back." [...]

MLB.com is reporting that the Reds will be without Edwin Encarnacion for at least two or three more weeks due to his wrist injury. Encarnacion is expected to take live batting practice early this week in St. Louis.
Our View: The Reds are being very careful with Encarnacion, as he looks to be doing very well at this point. He will hit this week, and he should start a rehab assignment at some point in the near future. Expect him to return in about two weeks or so.
