Reds placed RHP Edinson Volquez on the 60-day disabled list. Cincinatti needed the 40-man roster spot to sign Jonny Gomes. Volquez is expected to miss most or all of the 2010 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August. He began long tossing last week and hasn't experienced any setbacks in his rehab. The 26-year-old right-hander is long-tossing every other day for about 12-13 minutes, but there is no timetable for him to throw off the mound yet, much less return to action. It's worth noting that the optimistic Volquez hopes to return after the All-Star break.
