Pirates right-hander Edinson Volquez finished the 2014 regular season with a 13-7 record, a 3.04 ERA, a 1.23 WHIP and 140 strikeouts in 192 2/3 innings pitched.
Spin: Volquez had his best season in six years, winning at least 13 games and posting a sub-3.25 ERA for just the second time. However, a lot of the 31-year-old's season appears to be smoke and mirrors. Volquez's FIP was over a run higher than his ERA (4.15 vs. 3.04) and his 1.97 strikeout-to-walk ratio ranked 80th of 88 qualifying pitchers. Even though the traditional numbers looked good, owners should shy away from him except in NL-only formats and the deepest of all mixed leagues.
