Kubel went 11-for-26 and hit two three-run home runs Sunday. Young hit safely in all seven games of the week and went 13-for-29 with six runs scored.

This year, he dug himself too deep a hole to challenge for a .300 hitting mark -- he was batting .264 to begin September -- but Young's late-season surge has qualified him for play in mixed-league formats.

Our View: Young appears to be on a late season tear. Not only does he own a seven-game hitting streak, but he's driven in eight runs in his past two games. If the Twins make the postseason, his recent surge will be a big reason why.

Young, who was drilled in the knee on Thursday, showed no ill effects at all in this one, and continues to produce since inheriting a full-time starting gig on Sept. 13. Since then, Young has gone 25-for-78 (.320) with two homers and 13 RBIs. The sense of promise unfulfilled continues to dog Delmon -- given his world of talent and unimposing .714 OPS and .409 slugging percentage, it's easy to see why -- but the former mega-prospect has been doing good work of late, and could be worth a look down the stretch in deeper leagues.

Detroit Tigers pitcher Jeremy Bonderman has been suspended for three games for intentionally hitting Minnesota's Delmon Young on a knee with a pitch.Bonderman, who also was fined, appealed the penalty assessed Friday by Major League Baseball vice president Bob Watson, delaying the start of the suspension.Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon was suspended for one game and fined because Bonderman acted intentionally following warnings to both teams during Minnesota's 8-3 win Thursday.
