Barry M. Bloom, of MLB.com, reports New York Mets 3B David Wright (knee) appeared to be hobbling while running the bases Wednesday, Aug. 12. Manager Jerry Manuel said Wright has been experiencing soreness behind his right knee, and he also seemed to be favoring his groin. Manuel said he expects Wright to be examined before the team returns home. "I'm not sure who'd be checking me out," Wright said. "I'm just a little banged up. I'll be in there [on Friday night]. Our View: So expect the Mets to announce tomorrow that Wright has suffered a stroke and will be out "probably" only three or four days, before it is dragged out for three or four weeks and he is declared unable to go for the rest of the season. Yes, I am on Twitter.1.As badly as things ended in 2007 and 2008, the Mets could imagine a bright future still ahead, and the strongest reason for that was a left side of the infield that was not just excellent, but young. When last season finished, both Jose Reyes and David Wright were still just 25. They were All-Star quality players. You could argue - rather easily - that both were among the 15 or 20 most desirable players in all of baseball. It was also rather easy to believe that their best years were still in front of them; that the Mets had a cornerstone from which to construct future elite teams.
