The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Padres have interest in acquiring free agent middle infielder David Eckstein.The Padres would like a veterans with a short term deals to fill their middle infield until Matt Antonelli, Edgar Gonzalez and Luis Rodriguez are ready for the Majors. Eckstein's batting average fell over 40 points last season and his play at shortstop has taken a noticeable turn for the worse.
