Our View: Dice-K held the Yankees bruising lineup in check, but the five walks against just three strikeouts is troubling. He has walked nine in 18.1 innings since his return from the DL.

Our View: Dice-K wasn't quite as solid today as he was in his last start, but this was still a fairly encouragng start. He is making his case to be the team's fourth starter in the playoffs, and he looks to be healthy and close to finding his old form.

Skipper Terry Francona said, "Other than throwing a side, there is really not a lot new. The strength deficit from one leg to the other is very noticeable. It is certainly not getting beter. Because he is trying to hard to get ready to do what he does, which is pitch, we are trying to kind of stay with this and do the right. To be honest with you, I do not know if we know what the right thing is yet."
Our View: If the nerve problem that affects his back and his lower left leg improves enough to allow him to pitch, he would start either Sunday in Baltimore or Monday in Kansas City. Daisuke Matsuzaka is set to return to the rotation tonight against the Angels.

Updating a previous report, the Boston Red Sox have announced that starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka will make his return to the rotation Tuesday night against the Angels, according to the Boston Globe. Matsuzaka will be on regular rest after pitching Wednesday in a Single-A playoff game, although he will be getting one extra day due to Monday's off-day.
Our View: Dice-K looked very sharp in his last outing on Wednesday, and apparently the Sox are convinced he is ready to help out the rotation. He will be taking Paul Byrd's spot in the rotation on Tuesday, and it looks like he will stay in the rotation for the rest of the season, assuming he stays healthy. If his last start was any indication, he should be able to help out fantasy teams over the last few weeks.

Red Sox | Dice-K roughed up Sunday
Adam Kilgore, of The Boston Globe, reports Boston Red Sox SP Daisuke Matsuzaka (shoulder) gave up five runs and four hits while walking three and throwing 49 pitches in the first inning of his rehab start Sunday, Aug. 30. He threw 58 pitches total during his outing. Matsuzaka will throw a side session Tuesday, Sept. 1, and his final rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket will come Friday, Sept. 4.
