Phillies | Hamels receives tough no-decision
The Associated Press reports Philadelphia Phillies SP Cole Hamels pitched shutout ball for the first time in 2 1/2 months for a no-decision against the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, Aug. 26. He threw 123 pitches in eight innings and was denied his first win since July 28. Hamels was 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA in August.

Hamels certainly deserved better here as he dominated the strike zone (82 of his season-high 123 pitches caught the plate) and looked about as good as he has all year, only for the beleaguered Phillies 'pen to undo his handiwork. Still, there are too many positives at work here to come away with a bad taste after what was a terrific outing. Hamels will look to keep things rolling when he takes on the Giants his next time out on Sept. 1

Cole Hamels picked up only his fourth quality start since the All-Star break, and allowed no runs in a start for the first time since June 4. as the Phillies won 4-1 in ten innings in Pittsburgh.
Our View: The Phillies can only hope tonight was a sign of things to come for Hamels down the stretch. He should be good to go for September and the playoffs, as he has thrown just 147.1 innings this season.
