Hamels ruled out for opening day
MLB.com reports that Cole Hamels will not be available to start on opening day for the world champion Phillies. He will start an exhibition game on Saturday and believes he will be ready to go when the Phillies take on the Rockies in Denver on April 10. He threw 65 pitches over four innings against minor leaguers on Monday. The ace allowed 10 hits, three runs, and a walk while striking out five in the outing.
Our View: The best news out of all this is that Hamels claims he feels zero pain in his elbow. However, his fastball is being clocked between 85-88, which is not nearly where he wants it to be throughout the course of the season. There still has to be some hesitancy when selecting Hamels, but if we are to believe he's pain free, than he could still very well be a Top 10 starter this season.

Hamels said his elbow felt great and he remains on schedule to pitch April 10 against the Colorado Rockies. Hamels had been bothered with inflammation for weeks, but he said the shot has knocked that out. He allowed only one hit. Hamels is scheduled to pitch in a major league spring game on Sunday.
Our View: Hamels is still slated to miss the season opener, but he could start as soon as April 10. Fantasy owners who've taken a chance on the lefty should feel very good about this news.
