The visiting Phillies tagged the lefty for five runs in a bad fifth inning Thursday, when he set a LCS record for most wild pitches in an inning with three. He also tied the record for most wild pitches in a LCS game, shared by Tommy John and Juan Guzman. Kershaw allowed five runs on four hits in 4 2/3 innings and walked five in his second postseason start. "It looked like he tried to overthrow the ball, got frustrated out there. Unfortunately, it got away from him quickly," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "As far as the pressure of the game, he certainly can handle it, but sometimes things get away from you." [...]

Clayton Kershaw was unimpressive on Thursday night. The breathtakingly talented lefty struggled with his control, walking five batters in just 4.2 innings, leading to five Philadelphia runs, as the Phillies took game one of the NLCS 8-6 in Los Angeles.

Our View: Kershaw struggled with his control all season, so it's no surprise that he struggled with it on Thursday night. He's going to have to be markedly better in his second start of the series (if he gets one) for L.A. to have any shot at winning.

The Dodgers have set their rotation for the NLCS, and Vicente Padilla will pitch Game 2 after Clayton Kershaw goes in Game 1, according to the Twitter page of USA Today's Bob Nightengale. Padilla will be followed by Hiroki Kuroda in Game 3 and Randy Wolf in Game 4.

Our View: Padilla was very good in Game 3 of the NLDS, so he gets the nod in Game 2. Wolf, who started Game 1 against the Cardinals, gets pushed back to fourth in the rotation, and Kuroda will be making his first appearance of the postseason.

Our View: NLDS Game 1 starter Randy Wolf struggled in his start against the Cards, and Kershaw was very good, which likely factored into the decision. Kershaw is probably the best starting pitcher on the team, so this move makes perfect sense.

Our View: Kershaw has been limited lately due to injury and the team's fear of him being overworked, but Saturday was a big step in the right direction. Looks like he has some gas left in the tank for the playoffs.
