The Associated Press reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw allowed four hits and struck out seven in a career-high eight shutout innings in his no-decision Wednesday, July 29, against the St. Louis Cardinals. He is 5-0 with an 0.79 ERA in his last nine starts, and lowered his ERA to 2.76.

A nasty showing from Kershaw, who went more than seven innings for the first time in 43 career big league starts. Unfortunately, he wasn't rewarded with a win when Jonathan Broxton coughed up the lead in the ninth. Regardless, Kershaw continues to mature, as this marked the sixth time in his last nine trips to the hill that he exited without allowing an earned run. His ERA, as high as 4.50 in mid-June, is down to 2.76, which ranks seventh in the NL. The young stud is on track to hurl again on Aug. 3 vs. a Brewers team he has already beaten once this year.

Clayton Kershaw had his longest outing of the season on Wednesday, tossing eight dominating innings in St. Louis, striking out seven while allowing just four hits. He took a no-decision, however, as the Dodgers lost 3-2 in 15 innings.
Our View: Kershaw also issued just two walks. Expect manager to Joe Torre to have a short lease with him in his next start, however, as his 112 pitches was one of his highest totals of the season.
