Yankees general manager Brian Cashman believes that the kinetic
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman believes that the kinetic effect of Wang's right foot injury -- a Lisfranc fracture suffered last June 15 -- is directly responsible for the 34.50 ERA Wang posted in three big league starts this year. "You see what the results are," Cashman said. "The velocity is down, the command is off. Those are indicators that something is not right. Whether it's mechanical or health-related, that's what we're going to find out. We're plugging all aspects in." The Yankees have not reached an official decision on what they will do with Wang, but a DL trip looks likely.

Wang Isn't In Boston
By GEORGE A. KING III
BOSTON -- Pitcher Chien-Ming Wang is not with the Yankees today, though he was expected to rejoin his teammates here after throwing an extended-spring-training game in Tampa on Thursday.
His absence could mean he is one step closer to being put on the disabled list. It was speculated the struggling right-hander would throw a bullpen session in Tampa tomorrow.
Wang is still on the team's 25-man roster, which means it will start a three-game series against the Red Sox one player short.

"He threw strikes with all his pitches, his slider was the best I've ever seen and he threw a lot of real good changeups," said Yankees pitching coordinator Nardi Contreras. "When his sinker was down, it sunk really well. He elevated a few of them, though. That's the only time he got hit. There was swings and misses, a lot of easy ground balls. It was good." [...]

He gave up five runs (four earned) and nine hits while striking out 11 against a minor league team in the Philadelphia Phillies system. Wang has not been told if he will make his next start in the big leagues. Wang worked on mechanics before the game, including staying back longer during his delivery.

The club's decision comes no less than 24 hours after concluding that Wang -- who has logged a 34.50 ERA in three starts -- would be skipped this weekend against the Red Sox. While Wang has repeatedly said that he is healthy -- he did so again on Tuesday -- GM Brian Cashman said that he is not completely convinced. The Yankees medical staff will continue to test Wang, making sure that last June's right foot injury is not affecting him in any way. "I'm sure it's going to take some time," Cashman said. "The first [step] is to try and determine what's wrong. His velocity is down, his command is off. That could indicate health. He feels so far that he's healthy, so we're evaluating his mechanics."

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that he planned to meet with
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that he planned to meet with general manager Brian Cashman on Monday at Yankee Stadium, plotting out the club's upcoming pitching rotation. Given the excuse of a rainout Monday and an off-day Thursday, using the opportunity to bypass Wang was a safe bet. Nothing has come easy for Wang, who served up eight runs for the second successive game in his last start against the Indians. That turned into a 22-4 defeat, and through three starts, Wang has struggled mightily, posting a 34.50 ERA. He has allowed 23 runs on 23 hits in just six innings.

It didn't take long for another first at the new Yankee Stadium:
News: It didn't take long for another first at the new Yankee Stadium: the first rainout. Afternoon showers and a forecast for more rain in the evening caused the Yankees to call Monday night's game against the Athletics. No makeup date was announced, but in addition to the remainder of this week's series Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon, the A's return for another three-game set from July 24-26. With both teams off July 23, it could be made up then or as part of a day-night doubleheader later in the series. New York's Andy Pettitte and Oakland's Dana Eveland, who had been set back to start the opener, were pushed back to Tuesday. Yankees manager Joe Girardi bypassed Chien-Ming Wang for his next turn following three terrible outings. CC Sabathia is to start Wednesday's series finale against Oakland, and Joba Chamberlain, A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte were scheduled to start this weekend in the Yankees' first trip of the year to Fenway Park. [...]

Chien-Ming Wang's struggles are a mystery to him. New York Yankees
News: Chien-Ming Wang's struggles are a mystery to him. New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi, however, sees things differently, and is undecided about right-hander's next start. The soft-spoken 29-year-old from Taiwan said he has compared video of his performances from this season to last year, when was 8-2 with a 4.07 ERA in 15 starts before injuring his right foot June 15, and doesn't see a difference. "Everything is the same as last season," Wang said. "Nothing's wrong. Just keep working." But Girardi also watched video with his staff and thinks there are several things Wang can work on. "We looked at his hands, height of his leg kick, where his head is - if it's out of line - the angle of his arm. We looked at everything." Girardi said. "We had some healthy stuff that we saw. We understand that we need to make some adjustments." Girardi believes Wang, who was 5-0 in April last year, deserves more leeway than an inexperienced pitcher, but he said the Yankees will have to make a decision about what to do with him soon. He said he hasn't spoken with Wang about it yet. "It's just difficult to go through, and you got to fight your way out," Girardi said. "We really feel he is capable of doing that. We've got to help him." Wang's next turn in the rotation is scheduled for Boston on Friday, and his preference is to make the start and work on his motion during regular side sessions. "I can pitch in that game. I want to pitch," Wang said. [...]

News: Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang had a third straight horrible start in Saturday's game against Cleveland. He did not make it out of the second inning, allowing eight earned runs. He allowed all eight earned runs in the second inning after getting off to a quick start in the first inning by retiring the side in order. He recorded just four outs before being chased. "Actually, I thought he threw more good sinkerballs today but that inning got out of hand and we need to fix that," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "We have some time. We have a day off I think Thursday and we're going to have to decide what's best for Chien-Ming Wang and the team." The Yankees could skip Wang's next turn in the rotation but Girardi said the team hasn't made a decision yet. [...]

Wang just doesn't have it right now. He's allowed seven, eight and eight earned runs in his three outings, so it's pretty clear that he's a major risk when he takes the mound. Yankees | Wang changes routine
Carter Gaddis, of MLB.com, reports New York Yankees SP Chien-Ming Wang faced hitters while pitching from the mound Wednesday, April 15, instead of conducting his workout in the bullpen. Wang's goal was to slow himself down after starting 0-2 with a 28.93 ERA in two starts this season. He will throw his normal side session Thursday, April 16.

He has had trouble keeping his pitches down in the strike zone, and worked on slowing down the left leg during his delivery. "Good day," Wang said. "Felt better. I'll keep working in the bullpen." Wang, who missed the final 3 1/2 months last season with a foot injury, will have a short bullpen session Thursday in preparation for his next start Saturday. Yankees | Wang corrected flaw in mechanics
Tyler Kepner, of The New York Times, reports New York Yankees SP Chien-Ming Wang had corrected a flaw in his motion before his last start Monday, April 13, in which he struggled. "Starting in Baltimore, his arm was late, he wasn't on time, he wasn't getting on top of the ball to throw the ball downhill and get his signature sink," pitching coach Dave Eiland said. "He made the adjustment in his side work, he warmed up tremendously, and then in the game, he was back to where he was in Baltimore." Wang acknowledged that he may have been thinking too much about his mechanics in his last start.

Wang suffered the worst outing of his career on Monday at Tropicana
Wang suffered the worst outing of his career on Monday at Tropicana Field, facing 12 batters and recording only three outs as the Rays got to him for eight runs in a 15-5 victory. The Yankees believe the problem is mechanical and, with a few adjustments, his sinker will start to sink again. Whatever is causing the discrepancy, Wang will have to correct it on center stage. With no off-days until April 23, the Yankees have no plans to skip Wang in the rotation. He is their scheduled starter for April 18 at Yankee Stadium against Cleveland, when they will hope for better results.
3 Up: Wang And That Sinking Feeling
1. Mike Pelfrey and Chien-Ming Wang share much in common. They are big righties who depend to a large degree on heavy, sinking fastballs for groundballs and efficiency. They both were slotted into the No. 2 spots in their respective rotations behind lefty aces. And now they are both struggling early in the season, and there are some red flags that will make both organizations wonder if this is more than just a down phase in a long season.
Yankees | Wang bombed again in Monday outing
The Newark Star-Ledger reports New York Yankees SP Chien-Ming Wang tied a career high by allowing eight earned runs Monday, April 13, against the Tampa Bay Rays. Combined with his season debut against the Baltimore Orioles, in which he yielded seven runs in 3 2/3 innings, Wang has allowed 15 earned runs, 15 hits and six walks in his first two starts.
Something appears to be wrong with Wang, who's gotten lit up
Something appears to be wrong with Wang, who's gotten lit up for 15 earned runs in just 4 2/3 innings, good for a nightmarish ERA of 28.93. It's probably worth waiting another outing before completely cutting ties with the Taiwanese righty, but the signs aren't encouraging. Wang's success is predicated on his sinker, which simply isn't sinking at the moment. Leave Wang on your bench until his mechanical difficulties are hashed out.
Yankees SP Chien-Ming Wang had his second straight terrible
News: Yankees SP Chien-Ming Wang had his second straight terrible start Monday at Tampa Bay, as he continues to struggle in his comeback from foot surgery that sidelined him for more than three months last season. He allowed eight runs on six hits and three walks in one inning, recording one strikeout. In two starts since foot surgery, Wang has allowed 15 runs on 15 hits in 4 2/3 innings. He failed to get through the fourth inning of a loss at Baltimore last week, and his earned run average ballooned from 17.18 to 28.93 after Monday night. [...]
Wang gives up eight runs in only inning
Chien-Ming Wang lasted only one inning in Monday's 15-3 loss to the Rays. He gave up six hits and walked three more batters while allowing eight earned runs in the awful display of major league pitching.
Our View: Wang is off to a dreadful start - as you may have determined by his 28.93 ERA. In the past he has been a very consistent and mostly effective pitcher. We would like to think that he will come around, but there's certainly plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise.

Wang blasted
Chien-Ming Wang was roughed up by the Orioles on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and three walks over just 3.2 innings. He was handed his first loss of the season.
Our View: Wang should still be a quality fantasy hurler this season and is a strong candidate to amass a solid win total after full season marks of 19 and 19 in his last two healthy seasons. However, you will have to look for your strikeouts elsewhere as he owns a career K/9 mark of 4.02.

Chien-Ming Wang had a mediocre outing on Friday against the Cubs. He allowed four runs on six hits in five innings.

Status: D.L.. Return status unknown
Chien-Ming Wang, who underwent left shoulder surgery in June, has been cleared to begin throwing by December 1. The news probably won't excite the Yankees enough to get him off their list of non-tender candidates, but the progress he's showing will appeal to other teams. Wang went 1-6 this season with a 9.64 ERA before undergoing his season-ending procedure. He won 38 games between 2006 and 2007.
