Updating a previous item, the Los Angeles Times’ Dylan Hernandez reports Los Angeles Dodgers SP Chad Billingsley (leg) should be recovered enough from his broken left fibula to begin throwing during the first week of January, according to his agent, former major league pitcher Dave Stewart. “This is supposed to be a six-week process,” said Stewart. Billingsley should be able to start rehabilitation in four weeks, although he’ll be limited at first to riding a stationary bicycle before being allowed to run.

Team spokesman Josh Rawitch said that the 24-year-old Billingsley slipped on ice outside his house in Reading, Pa., and suffered a spiral fracture of the fibula in his left leg on Friday. There is belief that the Dodgers may target Jake Peavy after Chad Billingsley broke his leg while slipping on ice, according to the LA Times.This is purely speculation by the LA Times, and the Dodgers previously lost interest in pursuing Peavy when Padres' GM Kevin Towers was asking for a package including Billingsley.

The Dodgers expect him to be healed and available to begin throwing bullpen sessions at the beginning of Spring Training and to be ready for the 2009 season. Still, consider bumping Billingsley down a few notches on your starting-pitcher rankings until he's fully recovered.
