Carlos Beltran could miss most, if not all, of the 2010 campaign if he opts for microfracture surgery on his ailing right knee, according to Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus.

Our View: The surgery is the worst-case scenario, and the elite outfielder is still hoping to return to the Mets at some point in mid-August. He is boosting the pace of his rehab, and shall remain stashed on fantasy rosters.

He felt pain as recently as Tuesday, July 28, while doing step-down exercises. "(Being) pain-free is not real right now. Coming back 100 percent, that's not going to happen (this year), but 80-85 percent, I'll take that," Beltran said. "If I feel like I can manage myself like that, that's fine with me." He has also been told that his knee will not require offseason surgery.

Our View: Beltran is apparently a very slow healer. An MVP candidate before he went down, it is still unclear just when the Mets slugger will be back. The best guess appears to be before the end of the season. Keep him stashed, and hope for a breakthrough. Stay tuned.
