"He should solidify the back part of our bullpen," Angels general manager Tony Reagins said on a conference call. "We pitched well last year, we expect to pitch well again." Fuentes, a 33-year-old lefty, was a three-time NL All-Star who went 1-5 with 30 saves in 34 chances and a 2.73 ERA for Colorado this season. Updating previous reports, ESPN.com reports the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim signed free-agent CL Brian Fuentes (Rockies) to a two-year, $17.5 million deal Wednesday, Dec. 31, which includes a team option for the 2011 season. He will make $8.5 million next season and $9 million in 2010, according to sources. The deal also includes a $9 million vesting option for 2011, based on games finished. Fuentes could be the team's closer or serve as a setup man to RPs Scot Shields or Jose Arredondo.

The Angels gave K-Rod 69 save opportunities this past season, so expect Fuentes to top the 30 saves he notched in '08.
