Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim CL Brian Fuentes blew his third save of the year Saturday, May 30, against the Seattle Mariners, according to The Associated Press. He allowed three runs on three hits in one inning of work.

News: Angels closer Brian Fuentes came on in the ninth inning, trying to preserve 30-year-old rookie Matt Palmer's sixth victory without a loss in seven starts. But Jose Lopez had other ideas. He drove a 1-1 pitch to left field with one out, after the left-hander gave up singles to Adrian Beltre and Russell Branyan. The blown save was the third for Fuentes in 16 attempts, and his fourth in his last 40 overall. Seattle went on to win the game 4-3 in the 10th inning with Jose Arredondo taking the loss. [...]

Not much good to report here. Fuentes had settled down some
Not much good to report here. Fuentes had settled down some after his early struggles, and is still 13-for-16 in saves, but the guy has a 5.30 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Arredondo would be the guy to take the closer role from Fuentes, but his 5.32 ERA and 1.68 WHIP are even worse, although his 25 strikeouts in 22 innings look like closer material. Fuentes is likely to hang onto the job, although Arredondo has the stuff -- if not yet the results -- to push him by the end of the season.
