Our View: Good news for the Phillies, who originally thought he wouldn't be ready until the weekend. Now maybe we'll find out if he can be of service to the beleaguered back-end of the club's bullpen.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Phillies' pitcher Brett Myers should be ready to return to the bullpen by the end of the week. Myers looked good in his 25-pitch bullpen session on Monday.
Our View: The Phillies want Myers to be available for the postseason, so he could get in a game or two if he can return before the end of the week. The Phils bullpen has struggled mightily as of late, and Myers would be a nice boost if he is 100 percent.

Status: Out. Return early October?
After meeting Friday with general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., free agent Brett Myers was told that the Phillies will not attempt to re-sign him. Myers spent eight seasons in Philadelphia, going 73-63 with a 4.40 ERA in 1,183 2/3 innings split between the rotation and bullpen. When healthy he's a qualify third or fourth starter and potential late-inning reliever, but injuries and off-field issues no doubt convinced the Phillies to move on.
