Pitching for Class A Clearwater on Thursday, he gave up two hits and threw 13 of his 19 pitches for strikes. "I had a few jitters because it was the first time out in a couple of months," Myers said. The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Phillies' starter Brett Myers has started running exercises in preparation for a return to the team. The Phillies expect Myers to join the bullpen before the season is over.
Our View: Myers is hoping to be back with the team soon, and the fact that he has started running is a good sign. He will be a nice addition to the bullpen when he is ready to return, but overall his fantasy value will be nonexistent.

Myers, on the DL since the end of May, will throw another bullpen session Monday in Clearwater, Fla. "I think Brett is going to be back, and I have some optimism about him," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said. "He's throwing and he's not feeling any problems with his hip. We have a pretty good fighter's chance we'll get him back before the end of the season. Who wouldn't want to have that arm in the back end of the bullpen?" Myers was 4-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 10 starts before the injury.

Status: Out. Return early October?
After meeting Friday with general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., free agent Brett Myers was told that the Phillies will not attempt to re-sign him. Myers spent eight seasons in Philadelphia, going 73-63 with a 4.40 ERA in 1,183 2/3 innings split between the rotation and bullpen. When healthy he's a qualify third or fourth starter and potential late-inning reliever, but injuries and off-field issues no doubt convinced the Phillies to move on.
