The torn laburm, with bone irregularity in the surrounding region, is similar that to that of teammate second baseman Chase Utley, who was shut down for roughly four months during the offseason and part of Spring Training. No date has been set for the surgery, and the Phillies declined to set a specific timetable for Myers' return. It's always nice to get a win, but the story here is Myers' continued losing battle against the longball. After a homer-free contest in his last start on April 29, Myers served up the ninth and tenth dingers -- in just 37 innings -- on the season. The rest of Myers peripheral stats look only slightly higher than usual, but owners have a right to be worried about his tater-related struggles. He'll look to right the ship in his next start, at home against the Braves on May 10.

After meeting Friday with general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., free agent Brett Myers was told that the Phillies will not attempt to re-sign him. Myers spent eight seasons in Philadelphia, going 73-63 with a 4.40 ERA in 1,183 2/3 innings split between the rotation and bullpen. When healthy he's a qualify third or fourth starter and potential late-inning reliever, but injuries and off-field issues no doubt convinced the Phillies to move on.
