Brandon Webb suffered another setback with his injured right shoulder, and there is a chance he will need to undergo surgery, according to the East Valley Tribune. He will meet with Dr. Keith Meister of the Texas Rangers in Dallas after several doctors were unable to relieve soreness and stiffness in his ailing shoulder.
Our View: The ace hurler has not progressed like Arizona has hoped, and it seems less likely that he will be returning before the end of the 2009 campaign.

The Associated Press reports Arizona Diamondbacks SP Brandon Webb (shoulder) has suffered another setback with his right shoulder, raising the possibility that he will need to undergo surgery. He will visit with Dr. Keith Meister, according to general manager Josh Byrnes. Webb has not pitched since Opening Day and has been limited to throwing off flat ground. "He's not making the progress we were hoping for, so I think we have to make an assessment about what to do next," Byrnes. "He has worked hard. It's just when it comes to throwing, it just hasn't been much different recently than it was going back to late May or June." It now appears highly unlikely that Webb will pitch again this season.

Accoring to managing general partner Ken Kendrick, the Diamondbacks' payroll will likely increase north of $75 million for 2010. General manager Josh Byrnes began the offseason with roughly $20 million to spend, but after picking up the $8.5 million option for Brandon Webb, the club will have less room to work with. "We definitely have more than $10 million to spend in the market," Kendrick said. "There are other moves that we may make that could change the money landscape that have yet to be determined." Of course, their flexibility may change depending on whether they will be able to find a taker for Chris Snyder or Eric Byrnes, but the Diamondbacks are expected to look for a No. 4 starter, a set-up man and a veteran position player. Arizona's payroll was approximately $73 million in 2009.
