The All-Star is gradually increasing the distance of his catch

Source (mlb.com) (P - ari) | 0 comments.

The All-Star is gradually increasing the distance of his catch sessions until he reaches 150 feet. (He threw from 90 feet on May 21.) Once he reaches that mark, he'll have built up the arm strength to start bullpen sessions. After some sessions, a Minor League rehab assignment beckons. Although a timetable for his return hasn't been set in concrete, it's advisable to keep the ace stashed on your disabled list. He can make a sizeable impact after the All-Star break.

Webb could be back before All-Star break

Source (fanball.com) (SP - ari) | 0 comments.

The Arizona Republic is reporting that Brandon Webb hopes to return to the Diamondbacks' rotation before the All-Star break. Webb has been out since early in the season with right shoulder bursitis.

Our View: Webb continues to make progress, and it looks like he is getting closer to a return. He hopes to start throwing flat-ground sessions next week, and if that is the case then his timetable is accurate. Keep him on your roster, and stay tuned for his return to the rotation.

Status: Out. Probable for Opening Day
Accoring to managing general partner Ken Kendrick, the Diamondbacks' payroll will likely increase north of $75 million for 2010. General manager Josh Byrnes began the offseason with roughly $20 million to spend, but after picking up the $8.5 million option for Brandon Webb, the club will have less room to work with. "We definitely have more than $10 million to spend in the market," Kendrick said. "There are other moves that we may make that could change the money landscape that have yet to be determined." Of course, their flexibility may change depending on whether they will be able to find a taker for Chris Snyder or Eric Byrnes, but the Diamondbacks are expected to look for a No. 4 starter, a set-up man and a veteran position player. Arizona's payroll was approximately $73 million in 2009.
