Brad Penny allowed 10 hits in six innings as Boston fell 5-3 to Toronto on Saturday. He did not walk a batter and only gave up two earned runs. He did not factor into the decision.
Our View: Penny has allowed 70 hits in 54.1 innings of work this season and his WHIP is up to 1.60. The Red Sox would prefer to trade him as John Smoltz is due to come back in a couple of weeks and they may not have space on their pitching staff for Penny.

It was another quality start for the burly righty, who's delivered four such efforts in six outings in May. After posting an unfavorable 4.0 BB/9 rate with the Dodgers last year, Penny has reigned in his command in '09. He has a solid 2.8 rate and two consecutive starts with nary a walk. It's likely he'll lower that rate further when he faces an impatient Rangers lineup on June 5 at Fenway Park.
