Barry Zito allowed three earned over 5 2/3 innings against Milwaukee
Barry Zito allowed three earned over 5 2/3 innings against Milwaukee on Saturday, yielding three hits and three walks in the no-decision.
Analysis: Zito was brilliant over the first five innings before being chased by a three-run homer from Prince Fielder in the sixth and watching reliever Brandon Medders blow Zito's chance for his fifth win of the season later in that ining. While this outing isn't anything special, and while the same could be said for Zito's 4.55 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, this has still been a pretty solid first half for the veteran lefty. Zito's strikeout rate is up some -- he now has 66 in 89 innings -- and while he's still having problems with walks (40), he's allowed just 86 hits in 89 innings. He's still not an option outside of NL-only formats, but Zito is certainly a viable back-of-the-rotation option there. That's not saying a lot, but the same could not have been said of him last year. Zito's next turn comes on July 2, in St. Louis.

According to MLBlogs.com, struggling utility man Bill Hall gets the start at third base for Saturday's contest.
Our View: Hall is hitting just .259 with five homers this year, but gets the nod against the Giants' Barry Zito. Craig Counsell gets the day off and Casey McGehee takes over the duties as second base. Owners shouldn't rush to get Hall in for today's fantasy lineup.

X-rays on Barry Zito's left elbow Friday revealed no structural damage. Zito was struck on his pitching elbow Friday night with an Adrian Gonzalez line drive, but simply suffered a bruise. And now he has the entire offseason to recover. The left-hander went 10-13 with a 4.03 ERA over 33 starts in '09.
