Not much new, here, as Ramirez will be evaluated on a daily basis by the Cubs through the end of the season. There's a chance he doesn't return at all this year, but this day-to-day limbo is a sadly fitting end to what has been a tantalizing season for A-Ram and his fantasy owners. Ramirez posted a stellar .317-15-64 line in just 300 at-bats, with a .906 OPS, but just wasn't healthy enough frequently enough to really help owners. The Cubs are downplaying the possibility that he'll need offseason surgery, but this is one player worth monitoring during the offseason. If he's healthy, he's among the most productive fantasy third basemen out there; if he's not, as his owners know, he's a headache.

Updating a previous report, Carrie Muskat, of MLB.com, reports there is a chance that the Chicago Cubs will shut down 3B Aramis Ramirez (shoulder) because of discomfort in his left shoulder. "His shoulder is sore," manager Lou Piniella said. "I don't know how much playing time he'll get the rest of the year. Ramirez has been playing with discomfort for a good while. We appreciate that. If he can play here sparingly the rest of the year, we'll see."

The Arlington Heights Daily Herald reports Chicago Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez (shoulder) was not in the lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29, because of lingering soreness in his left shoulder, which he dislocated in May. Manager Lou Piniella said Ramirez might be able to play "sparingly" the rest of the way, but he repeated that Ramirez will not need offseason surgery.
