The Associated Press reports Chicago Cubs IF Jeff Baker (finger) was scratched from the starting lineup Saturday, Aug. 29, after hurting a finger while fielding a grounder during batting practice. X-rays revealed no fracture for Baker, but he has a sprain. 3B Aramis Ramirez took his place at third.
Ramirez, who was not in the original starting lineup Saturday
Ramirez, who was not in the original starting lineup Saturday but went 2-for-4 with two RBI, said he would not have off-season surgery on his left shoulder, the Chicago Tribune reports. In fact, since receiving a cortisone injection Aug. 11, Ramirez has felt so good he has played in every game and currently has a seven-game hitting streak with a .414 average. [...]

Ramirez feeling better
Aramis Ramirez is feeling better since receiving a cortisone injection on his shoulder, according to MLBblogs.com.
Our View: This is good news, but Ramirez admitted that he will have to deal with pain for the remainder of the season, and won't be 100 percent until 2010. He is out of Saturday's lineup for a scheduled day off to rest.

A-Ram's big day can't stop Nats
Aramis Ramirez homered and drove in three on Thursday, but couldn't prevent the Nationals from taking two out of three at Wrigley Field, as the Cubs lost 5-4.
Our View: The home run was only his second this month, and it is clear that his balky left shoulder is probably still not 100 percent.
Ramirez stays productive when healthy
News: Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez went 2 for 5 with a home run and three RBI Wednesday at San Diego. He also doubled in the game and is 5 for 12 with four RBI since returning from his most recent absences due to his recurring shoulder problems and an illness. [...]
Ramirez's string of injuries has been one of the most vexing
Ramirez's string of injuries has been one of the most vexing subplots of the 2009 fantasy season, since his excellence when he's healthy enough to play has suggested that this could've been a year of stratospheric stats for him. Instead, his season has been a study in miniaturized brilliance -- he has a .324-10-37 line in just 176 at-bats, and is slugging an eye-popping .557. As long as he's healthy, Ramirez will hit. Owners just have to hope he can stay in the lineup over the last month-plus of the season.

Ramirez drives in three in win
Aramis Ramirez had another big night at the dish on Wednesday as the Cubs pounded the Padres 7-1. Ramirez went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI.
Our View: A-Ram just seems to crush the ball every time he is in the lineup these days, but the problem is that he hasn't been able to do so. If he plays, he is one of the better fantasy third basemen in baseball, but you have to watch to make sure he is going to play.

Ramirez, who has struggled with injuries all season, sat out
Ramirez, who has struggled with injuries all season, sat out on Saturday and Sunday with a cold before finally making his return to the lineup in typically Aramis-ian style. While Ramirez went just 3-for-23 in his first six August games, he's still hitting .327 on the season and remains one of the most productive third basemen in fantasy. The staying-healthy part has proven to be his biggest challenge thus far, but it's nice to see him back in the lineup and hitting, if only for one day.
Ramirez records lone RBI in loss
Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, and recorded the Cubs' lone RBI in Monday's 4-1 loss at San Diego.
Our View: Ramirez ended a six-game drought without an RBI. He is hitting .222 over 27 at-bats this month, after holding a strong .333 average in July. He should get back on track when his sore shoulder feels better.

Bradley back in Cubs lineup
Milton Bradley is back in the Cuns lineup after missing the team's game on Friday with a sore hip.
Our View: Boy, they sure missed him to, as they could only muster a season-high 17 runs in his absence. In all seriousness, it's great news for the Cubbies that the famously fragile Bradley missed just one game, as Aramis Ramirez will miss his seventh straight on Saturday with the flu.

Ramirez's return delayed by cold
Aramis Ramirez, who has sat Chicago's last five games with a sore shoulder, had originally planned to play on Friday but was scratched from the Cubs' lineup with a bad cold, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Ramirez returns to lineup
According to ESPN Chicago, Aramis Ramirez is back in the lineup for the Cubs in Friday's contest against Pittsburgh. He is slated to hit fourth.
Our View: Ramirez was given a cortisone shot on Monday and doctors decided that he wouldn't need surgery on the previously dislocated shoulder. He spent two months on the DL earlier this season because of it. There is a caveat though... Ramirez may end up being a late scratch Friday due to a head cold. At least it's unrelated.

Ramirez expects to return Friday
Aramis Ramirez will miss the Cubs' game against the Phillies on Thursday, but he said that he expects to return to the lineup Friday, according to MLBlogs.com. Ramirez has been out with soreness in his left shoulder.
Our View: A-Ram has been killing the ball since coming back from the shoulder injury a few weeks ago, but you have to wonder if his shoulder can hold up for another few months. Check back tomorrow to make sure he is in, but it looks like that will be the case.

Cubs | Ramirez doesn't think he will have surgery
Toni Ginnetti, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez (shoulder) said he does not think he will need to have surgery on his ailing shoulder. "I don't think I'm going to have surgery because it's more muscular now," Ramirez said. "[The Cubs] did not rush me, but I wanted to be back. I was pretty good two weeks ago. It just happens." Ramirez also indicated that he is feeling pain when he swings the bat. However, he won't change or alter his swing or refrain from making a diving play on defense when he returns.
Cubs | Ramirez hoping to return Friday
The Associated Press reports Chicago Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez (shoulder) is hoping to return to the lineup Friday, Aug. 14, at the latest. "I have a pretty good idea of what I can tolerate," Ramirez said. "In Colorado I tried, but I couldn't do it. It was too painful. But I don't want to miss any more games. I've already been out of the lineup enough."

Lee draws three walks, Cubs draw 12-inning loss
Derrek Lee got on base three times in six plate appearances on Tuesday, but couldn't knock in any runs, as the Cubs lost 4-3 to the Phillies in 12 innings at home.
Our View: Lee will again have to put the Cubs lineup on his back for the next few days while Aramis Ramirez is out with shoulder soreness. That means he will have to improve a little bit on his .282 average for this month.
Ramirez out at least two games with bum shoulder
Third baseman Aramis Ramirez, perhaps the most crucial hitter in the Cubs' lineup, will miss at least the next two games after receiving a cortisone shot in his ailing left shoulder.

Ramirez could not play in Monday's game against the Rockies because of an aching shoulder and could miss more time as well. The options are to play through some pain, have a cortisone shot that will sideline him two or three more days or be placed on the disabled list. "We'll see how it responds [to Monday off]," Ramirez said. "I'm a little better, but I wouldn't be able to help the team if I played." [...]
Fox is a fine hitter, but Cubs fans and fantasy owners alike
Fox is a fine hitter, but Cubs fans and fantasy owners alike really want to know when Ramirez will be back in the lineup. Unfortunately, no one seems to have an answer at present. Ramirez will meet with team physicians on Tuesday, but he's still in too much pain to play after two days of rest and treatment. The Cubs will weigh placing him on the DL if his situation doesn't improve, but Ramirez should still be considered day-to-day for now.
Ramirez an injury risk for Week 19
News: The Chicago Sun-Times reports that if a day or two of rest doesn't significantly improve the soreness in Aramis Ramirez's left shoulder, the next step could be a cortisone shot that sidelines the Cubs' cleanup hitter for at least two more games. Ramirez may need cortisone shot
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Cubs' third baseman Aramis Ramirez could require a cortisone shot in his ailing left shoulder. Ramirez would be forced to miss at least two additional games if he were to get the shot.
Our View: Ramirez is hoping he won't need the shot, but if the pain persists he won't have much of a choice. The Cubs desperately need him in the lineup this week with series against LA and Philly, so look for him to be out there if at all possible.

"I was dealing with the pain, I was good enough to play, but today I couldn't. Every time I swing the bat I finish high with my left hand so it's pretty sore every time I swing."
A-Ram out on Sunday
Aramis Ramirez (sore left shoulder) will not be in the Cubs lineup on Sunday, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Our View: Not good news for the Cubbie faithful. It's the same shoulder that shelved him for nearly two months earlier this season. He had been very hot of late, and the whole lineup had been hitting better with him back in it, so the team desperately needs this to be minor.

Jake Fox replaced Ramirez in the field in the bottom of the inning. He said the shoulder has been bothering him most of this season. "It's been sore for a while. Ramirez exits game with sore shoulder
According to MLB.com, Aramis Ramirez left Saturday's game with a sore shoulder.

Soto activated
Geovany Soto has been activated from the disabled list.
Our View: Soto struggled mightily for most of the season (.209 average as last as June 12th) before finally getting into a groove just before he got hurt. There's no telling which Geovany might show up, but it's worth gambling that it's the good one because of how good he was last year and the extra protection he'll have in the lineup in form of Aramis Ramirez, who was out most of the time Soto was in the lineup.

Our View: Ramirez said that he left the game Saturday after feeling dizzy from the pain, but he also mentioned that the injury is not serious. Look for him to go tonight, and he should be a safe play, especially against a Reds' staff that has been struggling as of late.

Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in tonight's 9-8 win at Florida. He hit a single and a double.
