After debuting for Pittsburgh on June 4, the day after the trade of established center fielder Nate McLouth, McCutchen batted .286 with 26 doubles, nine triples, 12 home runs, 54 RBIs, 22 stolen bases and a .364 on-base percentage in 108 games. Throw in his athletic style of play, and it's easy to imagine the Pirates center fielder emerging as a trendy breakout pick when Spring Training rolls around.

Mark Sheldon, of MLB.com, reports Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen was named Baseball America's 2009 Major League Rookie of the Year. He hit .286 with 26 doubles, nine triples, 12 home runs, 54 RBIs, 22 stolen bases and a .364 on-base percentage in 108 games.

Andrew McCutchen closed out his rookie season with a 2-for-3 showing against the Reds on Sunday. McCutchen finished the year with a .286 average.

Our View: McCutchen is one of the more exciting rookies in the NL, and he has a bright future in Pittsburgh. He can run and can hit for some power, and he should be a very nice fantasy player next season.
