The Yankees continue to believe that A-Rod will rejoin their lineup sometime in May. GM Brian Cashman has set his target date for Rodriguez's big league return as May 15, but he recently said that the three-time American League MVP feels he may return earlier than that.

Alex Rodriguez is making progress in rehab after hip surgery
News: Alex Rodriguez is making progress in rehab after hip surgery and could soon move his workouts from Colorado to the Yankees' spring training complex. A firm date for the switch to Tampa, Fla., is not set, GM Brian Cashman said Tuesday. But he said the latest it would be is April 13. "We're still talking about it," Cashman said. The Yankees open a three-game road series at Tampa Bay on April 13. "Everything is going well," Cashman said. "He's working extremely hard. Everything is going as planned." Rodriguez has started lightly swinging a bat, and manager Joe Girardi received a message from the star slugger saying he was set to resume throwing this week. "He was going to up his work level a little bit more," Girardi said. "His rehab is taking another step. Seemed like he was in a good frame of mind. We miss him and he misses us." Rodriguez is also lifting weights, riding a stationary bike, working out in a pool and doing range of motion drills. [...]
Yankees | A-Rod continues to increase workouts
Bryan Hoch, of MLB.com, reports New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) continues to increase the intensity of his rehab and the team still believes he will rejoin them sometime in May. General manager Brian Cashman expects Rodriguez to be working in the minor leagues by April 13-15. The team has set his return date at May 15, but manager Joe Girardi said Rodriguez is expecting to return before that. "The thing we know about Alex is that he's going to be in shape from all this rehab," Girardi said. "It's a matter of him being able to run comfortably and feel his timing is down."

Rodriguez to return to Florida soon
Alex Rodriguez, who has been rehabbing in Vail, Colorado, since undergoing hip surgery there on March 9, has been progressing well and will return to the Yankees' training facility in Tampa Bay, Florida, once the team breaks camp at the end of spring training, according to MLB.com.
Our View: Rodriguez is still on pace to make the mid-May return to action that was targeted back when the surgery was performed. A-Rod probably should not slip past the second round of most fantasy drafts, as he'll provide a huge boost a month and a half into the season for any team that owns him, as long as they can stay afloat with a decent replacement at third base while he's out.

A-Rod allegedly mixed up in another mess
A former Manhattan madam who frequently supplied call girls to Eliot Spitzer claims she also provided services for Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, according to the New York Daily News. "Throughout the years, there were a number of clients that I befriended and it was not uncommon for them to want the women they can't have whether it be the phone hookers or the madam," says Kristin Davis, who claims she even dated the embattled All-Star for a time. According to Davis, the two stopped seeing each other after Rodriguez became upset at the fact that she was involved with another man, but not before Rodriguez admitted to her about using performance-enhancing drugs.
Our View: Obviously all this won't have any effect on Rodriguez's professional career, but it does adequately portray has jilted and cankerous his off-the-field life has been behind the scenes.

Call Girls: “The Manhattan madam linked to former Gov. Eliot Spitzer claims she had a “connection” and “flirtation” with scandal-scarred Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez. "I talked to him (Friday)," manager Joe Girardi said after the Yankees beat Houston 3-1 in a split-squad game Saturday. "He was supposed to get off the crutches today, supposed to start doing a little more rehab. Said he was good. (He's) in a good frame of mind." Rodriguez underwent arthroscopic surgery Monday in Vail, Colo., where he will likely stay for the next couple of weeks. It's not known if the 12-time All-Star, expected to be out until sometime in May, will rejoin the team before spring training ends. "I guess it depends on how well his rehab goes out there," Girardi said. "I would love to see him because that means it's going well. Yankees | Could look to acquire Atkins
Troy E. Renck, of The Denver Post, reports the New York Yankees could look to trade for Colorado Rockies 3B Garrett Atkins to fill the void left at third base by 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip).
Yanks interested in Loretta?
Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated reports that the Yankees may be interested in Mark Loretta as a stopgap at third base for injured star Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees are claiming they have yet to speak to any teams about filling their void at the hot corner.
Our View: Loretta is an excellent contact hitter and would plug nicely into the Yankees lineup until A-Rod's return, but there are still much better options at third base. Loretta's value would certainly increase, but not enough to make him a worthy fantasy option at the position.
A-Rod recovering
Alex Rodriguez is recovering nicely from Monday's hip surgery, according to the Associated Press. Apparently doctors have found nothing that should keep him from returning to duty in May.
Our View: This is good news for prospective A-Rod owners, but only time will tell if he can regain his elite fantasy status. Be wary of him on draft day, especially in the first round.
Yankees | A-Rod recovering nicely
The Associated Press reports New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) is pleased with his recovery from hip surgery, according to manager Joe Girardi. Rodriguez is expected to spend a few weeks of rehab and then return to the team's Spring Training complex.

News: From the The Sports Xchange: Alex Rodriguez had an arthroscopic procedure March 9, and GM Brian Cashman said the All-Star will be back "sometime in May." After the season, Rodriguez will undergo a more invasive surgical procedure to completely correct the problem. Cashman insisted to reporters in spring training the club didn't have reason to act earlier regarding Rodriguez's hip, but there's certainly room to question that opinion. A MRI exam in May 2008 revealed an irregularity in Rodriguez's hip, but since he didn't feel much pain after that, they did not call for another MRI exam last year, Cashman said. "Just because they have it doesn't mean it's a problem," he told reporters after announcing the tear in Rodriguez's labrum. "Just because you have it doesn't mean you need surgery. So that's why you put it in the file. You treat the patient, not the symptom. You don't treat the MRI. You treat the patient." [...]

Alex Rodriguez had arthroscopic surgery Monday to repair a torn
News: Alex Rodriguez had arthroscopic surgery Monday to repair a torn labrum in his right hip, and his projected timetable for recovery remained six to nine weeks. Dr. Marc Philippon performed the 1-hour, 20-minute procedure at Vail Valley Surgery Center in Colorado. Other options considered were a more aggressive surgery that would have sidelined Rodriguez up to four months and a conservative approach that would have included rest and treatment. "There is no doubt in our minds that this was the best option," Philippon said. "This was the best option for Alex and the Yankees." GM Brian Cashman expects the three-time AL MVP back on the field "sometime in May." Rodriguez will need a more extensive operation after the season, and Philippon said Rodriguez will "absolutely" be ready for spring training in 2010. Philippon said he found a small impingement and the lining of a cyst that was removed last week. The labrum was repaired. [...]

A-Rod will eventually have another procedure performed, one the Yankees hope will take place after the season. Because he had Monday's procedure, the rehabilitation time of the later procedure will be shorter than the three to four months he could have missed by having it now. The procedure renders Rodriguez a risky pick on draft day, one that could pay huge dividends or ruin championship hopes. Bid cautiously. With Rodriguez sidelined until at least mid-April, the Yankees plan to fill their lineup from within. Cody Ransom is the most likely candidate to fill in at third base.
A-Rod's surgery deemed successful
Alex Rodriguez underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair his torn labrum today, and the procedure was deemed successful, according to the NY Post. Dr. Marc Phillipon said, "The surgery went exactly as planned. There were no surprises, it was exactly what we were prepared for."

Yankees | A-Rod's surgery a success
Bryan Hoch, of MLB.com, reports New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) underwent successful hip surgery in Colorado Monday, March 9, and will begin his rehab this afternoon. Rodriguez's torn labrum was repaired and cartilage from a paralabral cyst was also addressed during the surgery. He will begin his rehab with range-of-motion exercises and riding a stationary bicycle Monday. Rodriguez could pick up a bat as early as Sunday, March 15. If Rodriguez undergoes the follow-up surgery in November, he is expected to be ready for Spring Training next season.
Alex Rodriguez will have arthroscopic hip surgery on Monday
News: Alex Rodriguez will have arthroscopic hip surgery on Monday and is expected to miss six to nine weeks. The Yankees slugger will need further surgery after the season. The decision eliminates the discussed option of Rodriguez treating the injury with rest and rehab and playing through the season without surgery, though it also guarantees he'll miss the first month, maybe more. "Well, it's better than him missing the whole year," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "It could have been a lot worse." Rodriguez and the Yankees decided to put off the full surgery, which likely would have kept him out until at least July because it could require three to four months of rehabilitation. General manager Brian Cashman said he expects A-Rod back "sometime in May." Rodriguez could swing a bat as a range-of-motion drill as soon as seven days after surgery. [...]

Rodriguez will take a so-called "hybrid" approach to repairing the injury, undergoing a limited procedure Monday and then another surgery at season's end to repair what remains of the issue. Rehab will take six to nine weeks, depending on muscular strength, before Rodriguez will return to Major League game-ready shape. Consequently, the slugger's value takes an obvious hit, as owners will need to either draft him with a temporary replacement in hand or seek alternative hot-corner options like Aramis Ramirez or Evan Longoria. Keep an eye out for updates on this developing situation.

The Associated Press reports Detroit Tigers DH Gary Sheffield thinks New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez (hip) should undergo surgery on his hip now, so the injury does not become career threatening. Based on my past history, trying to play through things, I think it would be wise for him to do it now."

News: While the Yankees would prefer that Alex Rodriguez plays with a hip injury, manager Joe Girardi said surgery before opening day remains an option for New York's third baseman. "Ultimately it comes down to Alex: What he feels is best - get the information, talk about it as an organization," Girardi said Friday. "Talk about with Alex, and ultimately he has to make the decision. It's a tough decision no matter what." Rodriguez had additional tests on his injured right hip in Colorado on Friday, according to team co-chairman Hal Steinbrenner. A day earlier, general manager Brian Cashman said Rodriguez will attempt to play with a torn labrum and avoid surgery and a four-month rehabilitation period. A cyst in the hip was drained Wednesday. "Everybody is concerned, of course," Steinbrenner said after meeting with Cashman and Girardi for about 15 minutes before Friday's game with Detroit. "No decisions being made. Just being cautious. We're going to take it slow." The diagnosis by Dr. Marc Philippon, in Vail, Colo., was yet another jolt to Rodriguez during a tumultuous one-month span in which the three-time AL MVP admitted using steroids from 2001-03 while with Texas. Tigers designated hitter Gary Sheffield, who has battled injuries throughout his long career, feels Rodriguez should have surgery if it's possible the injury could get worse and become a career-threatening situation. Based on my past history, trying to play through things, I think it would be wise for him to do it now." Cashman planned to talk with Philippon later Friday and said he could have additional information regarding test results. He wasn't sure when Rodriguez will rejoin the Yankees. News: Alex Rodriguez has a torn labrum in his right hip, but the Yankees think he can avoid surgery. A cyst in the hip was drained Wednesday, and the third baseman will miss the WBC. Yankees GM Brian Cashman said if surgery is needed, Rodriguez would be sidelined for four months. "If at some point it's not working and it's a problem, then the other one becomes more of a choice," Cashman said Thursday. "Right now, the route we're going is conservative." Cashman said if Rodriguez is able to play, the three-time AL MVP might have offseason surgery to repair the labrum tear. Cashman said Rodriguez's preference was to try rest and treatment first. "We're collectively trying to figure out what is best to do," Cashman said. "We don't want to rush into it. We want to digest it." Cashman said the team hopes the cyst was the cause of stiffness that had bothered the 12-time All-Star and caused him to see a specialist, Dr. Marc Philippon, in Vail, Colo. [...]

Contrary to speculation by A-Rod's brother earlire Thursday, surgery is not scheduled for Rodriguez. Cashman said that the Yankees hope to treat Rodriguez conservatively, since surgery would likely cost the slugger four months. However, Rodriguez may need surgery at some point, and having it before the end of the season is "not off the table," according to Cashman. In question is whether Rodriguez will be able to make it through the upcoming season without it, something owners should take into consideration before making a Top 5 pick. Rodriguez will not participate in the World Baseball Classic and has been removed from the Dominican Republic's roster.

i love this guy, he is the best, also my cousin so what can i say.
There is so much drama with arod that it is ridiculous. He should have never went to the Yankees. It was the worst thing that he could have done for both his profesional career and private life.
He just can't handle it!
Go go aroid! I hope this year he has a great year. I can care less what he took, though his "apology" was quite lame.
Now a report came out that his wife found love letters. LOL.

"I feel like Madonna is using mind control over him," Cynthia, 34, told a pal, according to the News. "I don't recognize the man he's become. He was a sweet, beautiful, loving husband and father.
