Thomas Harding, of MLB.com, reports Colorado Rockies SP Aaron Cook (shoulder) is scheduled to undergo an MRI Monday, Aug. 24, to pinpoint the severity of his injury. The team is hoping Cook will only be out 3 1/2 weeks. Cook's injury is not thought to have been caused by any mechanical change to compensate for his toe injury.
Fogg to start Wednesday
Josh Fogg has been named the Rockies' starter for their game Wednesday against the Dodgers, according to the Denver Post. Fogg will take the place of injured starter Aaron Cook.
Our View: The Dragon Slayer will get another opportunity to help the Rockies make a playoff run, just like he did in the magical 2007 season. Fogg isn't the pitcher now that he was then, and he is not worth a look, at least for this start, in any fantasy format.

Ortiz signs with Rockies
As expected, Russ Ortiz signed a minor league deal with the Rockies, according to the Associated Press. He was assigned to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Our View: The club added him for insurance with Aaron Cook on the 15-day DL with a strained right shoulder. He could get some starts with Colorado this season, but would only be worth a look for deeper fantasy leagues.

Cook placed on disabled list
News: Aaron Cook is headed to the disabled list with a right shoulder strain, a potential blow to the Colorado Rockies' playoff hopes. Cook was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday. To replace Cook on the roster, Colorado purchased the contract of right-handed reliever Matt Herges from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Cook was hurt during Friday night's 6-3 loss to San Francisco. Rockies manager Jim Tracy said Cook felt something in his shoulder during a four-pitch walk to Nate Schierholtz to start the fourth inning. Cook motioned to the dugout after the walk and was taken out after being looked at by trainer Keith Dugger. [...]
Cook had struggled notably in recent starts, allowing 14 earned
Cook had struggled notably in recent starts, allowing 14 earned runs in 10 1/3 innings and posting an 0-3 record over his last three outings. The rest may do him some good, and eventually give back some of the fantasy value he'd largely lost since the All-Star break. Cook put up a combined 7-2 record and 2.60 ERA in 11 starts in May and June, but is 2-3 with a 5.94 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP in nine starts since. The well-traveled Herges, who had a 3.55 ERA in 21 games with Cleveland earlier this season, rejoins the Rockies after spending most of 2007 and '08 there. Corpas, who was placed on the DL on July 24, will be eligible to return on September 21.

Herges recalled by Rockies
Matt Herges has been recalled by the Colorado Rockies, according to the team's Twitter page. Herges will take the roster spot of the injured Aaron Cook.
Our View: Herges signed a minor league deal with the team in July, and he has been with their Triple-A affiliate for the last month or so. He was decent in his time with the Indians earlier this season, and he could be a nice addition to the Rockies' bullpen.
Cook to DL with shoulder injury
Aaron Cook has been placed on the 15-day DL with a shoulder injury, according to th team's Twitter page. Cook is scheduled to have an MRI on his shoulder on Monday.
Our View: Cook has been getting bombed in the month of August, and it looks like his shoulder may be giving him some problems. We will know more after the MRI on Monday, but it's not looking good for Cook owners at this point.

While the music blared in the San Francisco clubhouse, Colorado Rockies injured ace right-hander Aaron Cook found a sliver of hope in his inflamed pitching shoulder.
Cook leaves game with sore shoulder
News: Colorado SP Aaron Cook was removed from the game against San Francisco in the fourth inning Friday night with a sore right shoulder and replaced by right-hander Josh Fogg. Cook, who has been bothered by a sprained big toe on his right foot that may have been the culprit in a mechanical flaw he discovered in his delivery, left after walking Nate Schierholtz on four pitches to start the fourth. Cook ended up taking the loss, dropping his record to 10-6 on the season. He'll be re-examined Saturday, but at the minimum, he'll miss his next start, Rockies manager Jim Tracy said. [...]

Cook lit up again
Aaron Cook got blasted again Friday. He lasted just four innings after giving up four runs on three hits and a pair of walks in a 6-3 loss to the Giants.
Our View: Cook was having a fine season until August. He has failed to go more than five innings in any start and has allowed 14 total runs already this month. The Rockies are hoping he pulls out of the skid soon.
The shoulder isn't the only ailment for Cook, who's also been
The shoulder isn't the only ailment for Cook, who's also been battling a hyperextended right big toe. It's unknown if the toe injury led to a change in mechanics and thus the shoulder injury. He's scheduled to throw against the Dodgers Aug. 26 at Coors Field, but check back to see if the shoulder ailment will keep him out past that date.

Cook slated for extra work before start
The Denver Post reports that Aaron Cook will throw two bullpen sessions in between his Friday start.
Our View: Cook was destroyed in his last start and wants extra practice so he doesn't become a repeat offender. He also plans to study tape of his last outing with pitching coach Bob Apodaca and Jason Marquis. He claims that his sprained big toe is no longer an issue.
Rockies | Cook drops second straight
The Associated Press reports Colorado Rockies SP Aaron Cook pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed seven runs, eight hits, walked three and struck out two Sunday, Aug. 16, in a 10-3 loss to the Florida Marlins. He has lost two straight decisions after a streak of seven wins.

Cook destroyed by Marlins
Aaron Cook was bludgeoned by the Marlins on Sunday. He was chased from the mound after just 2.1 innings and a whopping seven earned runs. Needless to say, he was tagged with the loss.
Our View: Cook was forced to miss his last start with a sprained toe, and we're guessing he wishes he would have missed this one as well. His fantasy owners certainly feel that way, as this was his worst start of the season.
Aaron Cook, who missed his last start due to turf toe, returned

Cook has worst start of 2009
News: Colorado SP Aaron Cook was simply awful in the first game of a day-night doubleheader against the Marlins on Sunday. Cook gave up five runs in the 2nd inning en route to allowing seven runs on the day on eight hits over 2 1/3 innings. Cook walked three in the game and struck out two. He threw 71 pitches and got only seven outs. Cook allowed two long balls in the game and his ERA is at 4.31 after his record falls to 10-5 on the year. [...]
Cook was the latest victim of the Marlins buzzsaw, in what was
Cook was the latest victim of the Marlins buzzsaw, in what was his first start since he hyperextended his right big toe against the Phillies, an injury that caused him to miss his last tilt earlier in the week. The veteran right-hander has turned in 14 quality starts in 24 outings and had only given up more than four runs one time -- his first start of the year -- in what has been another fine season of double-digit victories for the hurler, so it's possible that Sunday's horror show was simply a fluke. Cook will look to get back on track Aug. 21 vs. the Giants.
Rockies | Saturday's game rained out; doubleheader to be played Sunday
The Associated Press reports that the Colorado Rockies-Florida Marlins game, originally scheduled to be played Saturday, Aug. 15, was rained out. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday, Aug. 16. SP Aaron Cook will start the first game and SP Jorge De La Rosa will start the second game.

Florida/Colorado game postponed
Saturday's game between the Marlins and Rockies has been postponed due to rain, according to the Associated Press.
Our View: The contest will be made up Sunday as part of a doubleheader. Rick VandenHurk never started warming up as today's starter for Florida, so he will pitch the nightcap of the doubleheader. Aaron Cook was slated to pitch for Colorado Saturday as well.

Cook on pace for Saturday
Aaron Cook, who is recovering from a sprained right big toe, is on pace to start Saturday's game at the Marlins, according to InsideTheRockies.com. He was able to throw off flat ground from 120 feet today.
Our View: He was initially scheduled to pitch Tuesday against Pittsburgh, but was pushed back to prevent him from aggravating his injury. This is good news, but he will still be a risky fantasy option.
Aaron Cook (toe) is on course to start Friday against the Marlins.

Cook, who will see a foot specialist Monday, claims that he feels discomfort when his right foot pushes off the pitching rubber. "As you're pushing off, it's just that joint in the big toe," Cook said. "It makes it tough to push." Manager Jim Tracy revealed that Josh Fogg and Jhoulys Chacin are the most likely hurlers to be named the starter for the Aug. 11 matchup. Franklin Morales isn't under consideration for the spot start since his arm stamina has adjusted to that of a relievers', according to Tracy.

Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy said either P Josh Fogg or P Jhoulys Chacin would start Tuesday, Aug. 11, against the Pittsburgh Pirates, in place of injured SP Aaron Cook (toe), but a final decision would be dependent on how much one or both pitchers were used in relief prior to Tuesday's game, according to The Associated Press.
Rockies | A. Cook to miss scheduled start Tuesday
Updating previous reports, Colorado Rockies SP Aaron Cook (toe) will skip his scheduled start Tuesday, Aug. 11, due to concerns that his jammed right big toe could become a lingering problem, according to The Associated Press. He will visit a foot specialist Monday, Aug. 10, and hopes to return to the rotation Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Florida Marlins.
Cook to rest toe until next Saturday
News: Colorado right-hander Aaron Cook will skip his scheduled start Tuesday because the Rockies are concerned their No. 1 starter's jammed right big toe might become a lingering problem. Cook said he would see a foot specialist on Monday. He is set to rejoin the rotation Saturday in Florida. Manager Jim Tracy said there was a good chance either Josh Fogg or Jhoulys Chacin would start Tuesday against Pittsburgh in the place of Cook, but a final decision was dependent on how much one or both of the right-handed relievers were used prior to the Pirates game. Cook, who is 10-4 with a 3.93 ERA, has dealt with some soreness in his toe for weeks but aggravated the injury while backing up third base Thursday against the Phillies. [...]
Turf toe sidelining Cook
Aaron Cook has been scratched from his scheduled Tuesday start against the Pirtaes with turf toe, according to the Denver Post.
Our View: The team originally thought he'd be able to go Tuesday, but apparently not. He's still tentatively scheduled to go next Saturday, but turf toe often lingers, so stay tuned. Either Josh Fogg or Jhoulys Chacin will make the start.

Cook has sprained toe
According to the Denver Post, Rockies' starter Aaron Cook has been diagnosed with a sprained right toe.
Our View: The big toe injury can be painful, but the Rox don't consider the injury to be serious. Cook is still on schedule to make his next start. He will visit the doctor on Monday and unless he finds additional problems Cook should be good to go.

Cook takes the loss
Aaron Cook didn't last long on Thursday afternoon. He was yanked after five innings due to surrendering three runs on seven hits. He did not allow a walk or record a strikeout in the Rockies' 3-1 loss to the Phillies.
Our View: Cook is now 10-4 after taking the loss with a respectable 3.93 ERA. The loss was his first since June 1st, but his ERA jumped after a 4.17 mark in July.
Sinkerballers like Cook can often get away with pitching to
Sinkerballers like Cook can often get away with pitching to contact, but the right-hander allowed a few too many balls in the air Thursday. Cook has a 2-1 record and a 3.77 ERA in his last five turns, but heÂ’s been much better on the road than at Coors Field this season, so owners may want to consider leaving him on the bench for his next start, Aug. 11 at home against the Pirates.
