News: Aaron Cook pitched into the sixth inning, throwing exactly 100 pitches and giving up three runs as the Rockies beat the Seattle Mariners 8-3 on Friday afternoon. With his sinker staying too flat for his liking, Cook relied more on his slider and was able to wiggle out of the few jams he faced. It was the kind of challenge he wanted before the season opener arrives April 6 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cook pitched 5 2/3 innings, scattering 10 hits and allowing three runs. Aaron Cook put a lot of runners on base Friday, but managed to work out of jams and limited the damage. He allowed three runs over 5.2 innings, but surrendered ten hits and a walk. He managed to hang on for the victory.
Our View: Cook is expected to be the ace of a rag-tag staff in Denver. He should contribute in ERA and wins, but his K-rate leaves more than a little to be desired. He struck out just over hitters per nine innings last year.
